It was Monday morning and I finally felt human again. My furry alarm got me up before daylight again. I had no idea why they needed me up, especially since they had an automatic feeder. I guessed if they were going down in flames, they were taking prisoners with them, and that made me their new captive. I chuckled under my breath, even as the idea of getting mad crossed my mind, but really what did I have to be mad about? They’d given me a few hours to myself, to drink my coffee and read my paper in silence. It was ironic, really. When I’d lived alone, I’d hated the quiet and always wanted company. Now, with all the nonstop traffic coming and going from the house, a few hours of peace sounded like heaven.

Bonnie and Clyde had finished their breakfast and were keeping me company on the table as I did a crossword puzzle. I had my CD player in the kitchen playing classic Sinatra, old school style. Nowadays, everyone listened to music online. Heck, they even watched TV shows online. The computer I bought at the pawn shop was in the living room, so technically I could join the in-crowd, but I’d have to learn how to actually use the thing first.

I still needed to find someone who was good with it to help me set up my eBay store and all the other weird stuff we kept doing. According to Minnie and Florence, we needed a Facebook page for all the courses we offered so we could announce it to the city. It was a sad day when the senior community in town was giving me tech lessons.

With a sigh, I grabbed my list of stuff to do online and added Facebook page to it. The list was getting way too long for my taste.

It was probably my fault the list kept growing instead of decreasing. I did nothing all day yesterday. Mother went to church with her gang. The boys went to a Catholic mass with their family and I napped. I organized my closet with all the new clothes and played with the makeup I bought. It finally hit me why I’d given up on makeup so long ago: it was way too damn pricey. Thank God I had the cash, but it still hurt. The satisfying thing was, I now knew how to apply my own makeup again and it looked pretty good.

One day my goal was to look so stunning men would stop in their tracks and wonder where I’d been all their lives.

A hand landed on my shoulder, causing me to scream at the top of my lungs.

“Good morning Angela,” Mother said. She had the nerve to chuckle at my reaction, causing a scowl from me. Then she gave me a soft look. “I thought you heard me walking in the kitchen.”

“Sorry Mother, I was lost in thought with this puzzle,” I told Mother as I lifted the paper for extra emphasis.
